Not sure how you inferred that. In fact l pretty much stated the opposite in my previous post (re: how they couldn't have come up with this crap themselves). They're just tapping into everything that kept rave out, as a cosmic, positive, energy, everything that replaced it with booze in the house and workaday music. Re-read :)

Surely having a go at the way people chose to look and what they choose to wear if pretty anti-rave as well?

It's a look, I wouldn't go out dressed like that, but plenty of people and bands do. Also, whilst I might not like much of the Prodigy's output post Experience, I still respect the fact that they wanted to, and tried something different. If I was a producer and had a good couple of years banging out fantastic rave music that was also successful, I might want to try and spread my wings musically as well. Especially if the scene that supported my work before had splintered and fractured.

The only reason we're able to criticise The Prodigy in this manner, is because they're the only act from that era (4 Hero aside) who are still going.

What do people think of 4 Hero's later output? I love it, but ravers could have a pop at them for not still knocking out Feel Real Good ad infinitum.

Cheers guys, at the end of the day The prodigy are the most successful dance + electronicas band, if we like their latest stuff or not. They must of done something right, I still listen to their latest album and think its still better than a lot of rubbish around at the moment! I mean radio 1 is dead these days for dance music. I'll be surprised anyone listens to them anymore apart from a few chavs and youths that don't know any better. Well we'll live and let live.

Cheers

Cb

I don't see a problem with their new stuff I like it all. The band would obviously never stay rave because that sound isnt being made much now, they have gone with the times and evolved. I like Experience, Jilted and Fat Of The Land. I also love their other albums as they still have that energy they always had, might not be to everyones taste but I'm quite across the board with what I like so that rocky breakbeat/big beat sound is what I also like. I was lucky to get tickets for their latest tour in December and know that I'll thoroughly enjoy it.

I do smile at those who seem stuck in a timewarp that anything after 1992 is considered shit lol :D many artists out there have changed track in their time. Tastes change, times change you either evolve with it or be forever left behind clinging onto the past. I love my old skool, why else would I be here posting on an old skool forum? but I also like some newer music. I cant wait for their new album and to see them at 02 Brixton.

Hi,

I liked Liam's tracks in 1991 and 1992, but once they became mainstream, with a 'band' I had no interest, nor did any of my friends.

It all seemed very much about the money, and the opposite of underground.

The band obviously changed there image every few years, depending on what was cool at the time.

I found it funny when kids in heavy metal hoodies were talking about them, and they played festivals like Download.

I was never a fan of cross-over music, like Pendulum, just never appealed to me...

Personally I liked the fact they became a band, Altern8 did the same. Both guys did their own thing first then formed the band, many still like their music even though they did the gimmicky mask thing. Many I know and a lot of old skool bods online have said how The Prodigy get respect because they are the only true band still flying the flag for dance music/electronica even if they have made cross over music. I think their still credible even though they went commercial, but what impresses me they never made shit tunes. Some like to water down their music in case they fear it wont get in the top 40. The Prodigy never did the pop sound they have always been about energy and in your face sounds and always controversial (Smack My Bitch Up being one and Baby's Got A Temper with the rohibnol line and milking of cows in their video) so yeah they didnt stay underground but then again if they did would they still be the stand out band they are now? also if you was given the chance to keep your fierce, bad arse sound and go mainstream you would take it surely? I like how they are given freedom to do what they please. The record company do what they have to do and leave them to it, jobs a goodun.

Its all down to preference and opinion at the end of the day but I still do chuckle at those who hate on them just because they decided to not give up and be forever fawned upon in 15 years to come with people saying "who remembers the prodigy" like most of us do now that most who made the rave sound now have normal jobs and a family. The Prodigy decided they want to carry on, cant blame em.

The Prodigy are the true legends of dance music, their quality diminished when the 00's arrived, but they still rock the place. Jilted is the best electronica album ever imho, every track is wonderfully crafted, the details are superb, it's a true masterpiece. Shame they have imitated themselves at some point (the lag between 97 and 2004 was stupidly long).

Come on boys, in 94 nobody was doing hardcore rave anymore, hardcore produces either went jungle, house or disappeared into oblivion. The Prodigy did their thing...can we blame them for not making tunes like Your Love in 2017? Only people like us still listen to that music on a regular basis.

The Prodigy have not been The Prodigy for the last 20 years. You need to learn how to let go
Best to stop obsessing over artists staying "true" (as if they somehow owe you) and to just keep cherishing the music you like.
Their old stuff is still golden.
