My shortlist of the creators of hardcore / rave / early dance (creating tunes, not just DJing), based on my own experiences - these are artists that made landmark works in the scene (e.g. L.S.D., Happy Mondays) or more usually, made loads of great tunes and rarely any duds:

- Jurgen Korduletsch - discovered this producer via a charity shop (the "Body Jams - Vol. 1" compilation)
- Peter Slaghuis aka Hithouse (died in 1991 according to Wikipedia - what if he lived longer, the mind boggles)
- Liam Howlett before 1993
- Tango
- EQ
- DJ SS
- L.S.D. (Leeds Spreading Division) - The crew that made the Jesus on Es and Total Kaos demos on the Amiga
- T-99
- Human Resource
- DJPC
- DJ Seduction
- Ratpack
- Hedgehog Affair
- Virtual Reality
- 3 Rude Bwoy
- Ellis Dee
- Maurice Joshua
- Kevin Saunderson
- Altern8
- N-Joi
- Interface
- DJ Vibes and Wishdokta (when they're working together)
- Technotronic
- Black Box
- Happy Mondays

The reason for this list is because it's interesting (to me) to try to understand the people who encapsulated the scene. Maybe it would help making a new scene.

Hmmm l never really knew Franki Knuckles' tracks. According to Wikipedia he was the originator of "Your Love", which is a fantaastic track but l'm trying not to name one-hitters heh.

Although i did name Maurice Joshua, whose only hit l know of is "This Is Acid" but l guess we each have our definition of landmark tracks, fair dos.

Isotonik - another band that were consistent hitters. Hard hitters at that.

Frankie Knuckles a one hitter! (Not sure if that was tongue in cheek!)

Check out Tears, one of my favourite EVER tracks. His biggest hit over here was The Whistle Song. Made the Top 40.

Done tons of quality remixes as well.

I'd say virtually inventing house music (in addition to his productions) makes Frankie Knuckles worthy of this list.
Oh and he did win a grammy for his production work.

+1 for L.S.D. Jesus on Es. Watching that round a mate's house in a darkened room on shrooms and my taste in music changed instantly.
