Wanted to make this a poll but the poll settings won't work?

Please state which DAWs you use, in order of preference, with first = best.

For me:

1. Reason
2. Renoise (because l have so much Amiga tracker stuff)
3. OpenMPT (to translate the Amiga tracker stuff into a readable tracker format)

Audacity isn't a DAW.
Stopped using Ableton now.
Vowed never to touch Cubase because their earlier version, l think it was called Notator, was made only for the Atari, plus Atari had built in MIDI interfaces, so schools only bought Ataris for the music department - this killed the Amiga. Also Amiga was having a lot of infighting over copyright, but l still think Cubase was instrumental (no pun) in its downfall.

Renoise - close to Octamed as you can get - just much more powerful.

Use other bits afterwards to tweak the sound, but Renoise is the sequencer.
Have no need for any other sequencer.

Mostly Ableton or Cubase. Pretty proficient in both.

Have been tinkering with Renoise, but finding it really confusing.

Would like to use it mainly for oldskool beat edits. Any useful tips, guides or Youtube vids either of you can recommend? Trying to work out how they used to do those awesome drum rolls (aphrodite 93/94 esq)

Music Daws:-
I started out on Octamed Amiga, then Cubase on PC (nightmare), then Propellerheads Reason 1.0, 2.5 (PC genius) then (mac) Reason 6.5, now on 8. Used Ableton sometimes and Acid pro in past.

Audio editing:-

Cool edit, Audacity

Cheers cb

If you find someone to show you, it's much easier than a tutorial online.
It's basically a big step sequencer.

I can only use V2.8 or earlier - the newer ones are very confusing.

I'm guessing that was to RG but can you give an example, a direct YouTube link to a specific part of a song? I suspect this is something to do with the Akai samplers ...

FL Studio, have done since the first version. Ridiculously easy to use.
I did have a go with Reason for a while a few years ago but I just didn't get on with it. I can't really see any reason to use another DAW either to be honest. FL can do pretty much everything all the others can, at least everything I want it to do.

Yes, I believe you can!
Although I'm not sure how, there is a midi instrument/effect in the instrument, effect or utilities options.
You will require a decent audio device so you can record the audio back into reason though.

Reason.... I get on with it very well.... My mate swears by Fruity Loops but I tried it for a while but could not get along with it at all... So Reason all the way ..

Ableton. It's pretty simple, but powerful and versatile. That and Audacity for audio editing. Also hardware (synths, drum machine, sampler, tb-3) used with those DAWs

Used to have Logic Audio years ago...

And the very first I had was probably Rave Ejay. :D
