Anyone up for a new competition? Is anyone still making the core?

I need to get a nice batch of samples together - just been busy with other stuff so not really done any "tune" side of things for ages.

When I get a chance, I'll get some samples together :)

I'm just here to find some unknowns on my Tune IDs thread but I want to take part in this compo.

I saw the 2016 competition thread (the first post in this subforum), but the link to the winning entries is blank.

I wanted to know the standard of the entries i would be up against.

Facebook, WhatsApp, MSN, MySpace, Instagram, Twitter, i don't bother with, so please don't make anti-social media a prerequisite (just saying) :^)

Thanks for the uploads.

- OK to post stuff we've had on the backburner for years / decades? (I know, no way of anybody finding out but i just want to know what you would think of that being done because it means the participant has technically had ages to work on it)

- How will you be judging entries? Production standards? Or just how good it sounds to you?

- I think everyone should state the DAW(s) they used for their entries

I don't mind if the core samples are random. Hard core is a feeling. House is a feeling, right?

Would be nice to have a killer hook or two though.

Would be nice to work with serious limitations too, otherwise l get cat brain freeze

The way the compos work :

Batch of samples uploaded.
Rules usually are to use at least 4 of the samples in the pack - plus whatever else you have.
Max time 6ish mins.
Old Skool Style.

That's pretty much it for the rules of making the tune.

There's usually a time limit of around 4 weeks.

People pm me the tracks via PM.
All entries get uploaded in a pack - Labelled as track 1, track 2 etc - no one knows who's done what.

People then vote on their top 3 (with each earning points depending on the vote - eg - 3rd - 1 point, 2nd - 2 points, 1st - 3 points).
Voting can only be done by people that have been on the board for a while and have several posts (This stops people re-registering to cast votes on their own tracks - which has happened).
Anything we really like gets offered on the label we have (Which are all free downloads).

So no money prizes - just the fun of the compo with the chance of it appearing on our Paranoid Recordings label.

It's mainly done for fun / practice of production.
