Used to be liked but has turned into a parody of himself ! Mockney Kiaaaant !

And to be in Film and turn around and give it the large about Mark Kermode (and not know who the hell he is on top of it all) is just ridiculous !

I haven't been able to stand him since Human Traffic. In that he plays a role he can fill very well - a slightly pathetic but loveable loser. Not sure who after that told him he should try and play gangsters :?

I also hate the whole cockney thing. Anybody who lets their kid grow up in the 21st century sounding like an 18th century chimney sweep should be banned from having more children!

Anything remotely geezer/cockeny/chav/street really pisses me off. I know people from all over the place who have avoided the local trashy accent, it's not difficult to do!

I don't think you can include 'cockney' in that list. It's a genuine regional dialect, whereas 'geezer/street' or whatever are just contrived ways of talking. If you're gonna include cockney, you may as well include Cornish or Geordie.

But as for the original question: I used to think he was OK but just a bit of a nob, and that most of it is a just a TV act ( everyone's gotta earn a living!).

But after that Kermode rant, well, that's a shocker.

I agree it WAS a widespread local dialect, but last time I checked Dick Van Dyke is no longer dancing around on the rooftops of London

ha, I suspect he may 'ham it up' a little bit for the camera.

But then again, maybe he doesn't.

I think he's a dick. Maybe he's just been typecast, but his performances don't vary a lot from film to film. Cornered the market in annoying mockney types.
