"only this time, they look breathtakingly good". No they don't, they look fucking shit!
Played this to death on the Spectrum. I was constantly told how much better the proper version on the BBC Model B was. Wicked game!

Love Elite and yes the BBC Version was the best, my mum forced me to have a bbc because it would be "educational"

Haha exactly the same here! Elite was great but it was the only game worth playing on it - I was so jealous of my mates with C64s and Spectrums

I too had a BBC - my memory is that my brother would hog the game, let me have a go for 30 seconds then kick me off :(

i was lucky enought to have a bbc - mind you my dad worked at acorn at the time so it was all free!!!
had all you could ask for... expansion pack (took it from 32k to 64k) twin floppy 5 1/2 inch disk drives - really should have taken the advantage at the time and learnt more about computers - but no spent my time playing elite
bbc did have some good games, castle quest is another that springs to mind

Vague memory.

Yeah, was what Acorn made after the BBC Micro and Electron. Was actually rather impressively powerful.

I used to love Acorns, they were the school computer of choice of the 80s/90s so I had way more exposure to them than PCs up until about 1997. Real shame they died, the Risc PCs of the mid 90s as Matt says were powerful!
They haven't exactly done badly though, ARM as they're now known are probably the richest tech firm in the country thanks to smrt phone processors.
