** '91-'93 Mix Tape 'Re-Make' Comp - £100 First Prize!! **

Post by Thrash » Mon Apr 08, 2013 3:11 pm

Calling All DJ's.... Ever wanted to recreate your favourite mix tape from back in the day? Maybe that's what got you into DJ'ing in the first place?

Here's your chance to win £100 for doing just that!

The Rules
- Mixes from 1991 - 1993 only please
- Any format allowed (Vinyl, Serato, Traktor, Ableton whatever)
- Mixes recorded at 320kbps using the best rips you can (modern sonics being the point of the competition)
- Post Mixes in this thread including title followed by 're-make'
- Add a description as to why you chose the mix & the reasons for re-making it
- No limit to the amount of Mixes entered (the more you do, the more likely to win)
- Winner will be paid via paypal, cheque, direct into bank account, whatever is preferred
- Closing date is Wednesday 15th May 2013, Winner chosen by Me the following weekend.

If anyone wants any idea of the type of thing I'm talking about then the competition is inspired by this thread...

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=121552&p=1066980&h ... e#p1066832

Alternatively, here an original version of DJ Phantasy's classic set at Dreamscape 4 & the re-make done by 1992 in the above thread. The standard is excellent including slipping in some samples of the original MC'ing so I'm expecting BIG things.

http://www.mediafire.com/?825oly2af5drgwo - Original

http://www.mediafire.com/?3iic16tcx71sz0e - Re-Make

Over to YOU!!

(If the interest is high & we have more than 10 entries, I'll also chuck in £50 for a Second Prize)

Carl Cox Edge 93 Remake

Post by dj jedi » Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:43 pm

This is a remake of one of my favourite tapes (or CD to be exact) Carl Cox Live @ The Edge 93. I got this CD for Xmas in 1993 from my mum, along with a CD ghetto blaster to play it on, and it's been one of my favourite sets ever since. I decided to make it because the original mix is full of train wreck mixes, which on the most part isn't his fault, the decks keep skipping. Here's the track listing, it's in exactly the same order as the original. Mixed with vinyl.

1) Marc Smith - Breakdown
2) DJ Force + The Evolution - Fall Down On Me
3) N-Joi - Drumstruck
4) Visa - Let Me See Ya Move 93
5) Force Mass Motion - Force Format
6) DJ Edge - Edge #1 (93 Remix)
7) Jack Smooth + Alex Reece - 20 Hurts (Side A)
8 ) Top Buzz - Livin In Darkness (93 Remix)
9) DJ Vibes - Obsession
10) SMD - SMD #1 (Side A)
11) Force Mass Motion - Panic
12) Bass X - Hardcore Disco
13) Hedgehog Affair - Lets Have Some Fun In 93
14) SMD - SMD #1 (Side B)
15) Frankie Bones - We Can Do This
16) Essence of Aura - Destiny
17) The Anthill Mob - Penelope's Theme
18 ) DJ Smokey Joe - Kiss My Neck
19) Conquer - War Path
20) Tango - Future Followers
21) Smooth But Hazardous - Push Up The Levels
22) DJ PC - Go To The Moon
23) Space Cube - Session
24) Interactive - Amok
25) Jack Smooth + Alex Reece - 20 Hurts (Side B)

Ellis Dee Fantazia Big Bang '93 Remake

Post by dj jedi » Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:49 pm

Here's another - a remake of one of my favourite Ellis Dee sets, Fantazia The Big Bang 93. I bought this tape from Falcon Records in Poole in early 1994, and it has always been one of my favourites. I did a remake because the original has horrendous mixing (most of the other DJs that night were pretty bad too so there were probably no monitors or something) and also MC MC isn't to everyone's taste. Here's the track listing, again mixed with vinyl:

1) Edge *1 - The Remix
2) Dj Red Alert + Mike Slammer - 1,2,3
3) Ramos + Supreme - Crowd Control
4) Skrufneck - Our Love
5) Wax Doctor + Jack Smooth - New Direction (93 Remix)
6) Jack n Phil - We Are Unity (Vocal Remix)
7) Fast Floor - Plight of the Innovators
8 ) DJ B + EZM - Timelapse
9) DJ Seduction - Tonight
10) DJ Seduction - Solid Bass
11) Overdubb - Ruffplate
12) Aurora - Firin On All Cylinders
13) DJ Krome + Mr Time - The Slammer
14) Freestyle + DJR - Ten 44
15) Slam - Looking Into The Light
16) Joint Project - Total Feeling
17) Freestyle + DJR - Madness
18 ) Bass Selective - Blow Out Part 2

Thanks, not expecting to win but I think it's a great idea so wanted to get the ball rolling with a couple. Hopefully more will chime in :)

This is very obvious to anyone who knows me...but this set was a defining moment in rave music (IMO) and is my all-time favourite set by any DJ/any style.

It's all the more poignant for me as I was there on the night, but was so smashed out of my face I only remember the last 2 tunes, having spent the previous 2 hours lying on the floor dribbling into the concrete!

The tape arrived about 3 weeks later and has rarely left my tape deck since lol.

I'm the inspiration for this? Haha! Neat.

I'm in. I'll enter my Bukem remake and I'm working on Grooverider & Fabio set too.

LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad @ Dreamscape 4 Remake

http://www.house-mixes.com/profile/1992 ... ke-320kbps

made this last summer but I never published this till now. I had a hard time doing post production on the levels as the Tic Tac Toe and ElblandE records have bass that is just too loud.

(13 years in the making and I had fans for me doing this mix from before I even had all the vinyl. Apparently this is a much loved set.)

If I was pushed to name the one DJ set that inspired me the most both with my musical tastes and style of playing records on record players I would have a list of 5 sets. The number two favorite set, LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad at Dreamscape 4.

I came across this set in an unlikely way. At the time in 1998 there was only one 1992 music fan site called "Bassquake" ran by this fellow named Matt. He had up a great set of LTJ Bukem at Dreamscape 4 but it was in crappy real audio. I asked him if he could upload this set as an MP3. He instead sent me a cassette tape in the mail with Bukem on one side and Phantasy on the other.

The sound quality of this tape was just aweful, lots of distortion and hiss. Once I got over that I was in for a treat! Previous to this day in 1998 I had thought of UK 'Ardkore as just being the same old anthems I had heard time and time again such as all the Acen, 2 Bad Mice, and DJ Seduction stuff. I had no idea this style of music went any deeper then that. As I was listening to this tape I was in for a big surprise!

These were all seriously kick ass tunes that I had never heard before yet somehow I knew they must have existed as if I dreampt about them. Bukem's mixing is not nearly as good as the Phantasy set but he does play tunes that I never before associated with him. For one I never imagined Bukem played ... what I was calling at the time... happyhardcore. Also new to me at the time was that there were 1992 tracks that sounded like modern drum and bass only way better. Tracks like Tic Tac Toe and the El'Bland E record. The first record I was able to get for this set was weeks after I had gotten this tape from Matt "Bassquake" himself: Manix "Try to Love Me". It would take me another 13 years to track down the rest.

I've done my best here to not only collect the same records for this set but to play them in the same order and to even mix them in the same way as Bukem which was tough since I haven't listened to that low quality live set in a long time. For the past week before making this mix I was listening to the Bukem set on loop while playing Black Ops 2 to reaquaint myself with the set. In post production I also added in some bits of MC Conrad because he has become one of my favorite MCs just from this set. I love how he says cliche' 1992 'ardkore samples at the right moments. For this reason I just had to drop in some bits of his speach in the set. As it is, when I hear tunes from this set I hear MC Conrad in my head saying "'Ardkore knockin' at ya back door", "'Ardkore Junglin", "Easy tiger, thats the way wel like yah", and the classic, "This sound is the wickodest sound, pumpin music to the ground".

I'm not sure if this counts because it's one I've published a while ago but heres this one:

Grooverider @ Sterns 1992 Remake

http://www.house-mixes.com/profile/1992 ... ke-320kbps

This is an exact replica model of the Grooverider @ Sterns - Interdance event in 1992. Only now you get to hear it in high quality audio without the nusance of MCs shouting over the tunes. I wouldn't have been able to do this at all if it wasn't for a colaberation between me and DJ Nee to recreate the never released dubplate remix of the Tronik House "Streight Otta Hell". DJ Nee did most of the work, I had a version originally but it wasn't as authentic as his. The rest of the vinyl took me 12 years and roughly $800.00 USD to collect.

01) (X) Dance Conspiracy - Dub War (XL)
02) (X) M.A.N.I.C. / TrueBlood - Feel It (Bass Zone Records DRUG 001)
03) (X) Wax Doctor - A New Direction (Basement)
04) (X) Wots My Code? - Dub Plate (XLR8)
05) (X) Hardcore Rhythm Team - See The Light (Furious Records)
06) (X) Dica & Big Vern - Don't Think About Me (Boogie Beat)
07) (X) Noise Factory - Straight from the Bedroom (Capsule E.P) (3RD Party)
08) (X) Dica & Big Vern - 100 M/PHr (Boogie Beat)
09) (X) Higher Octave - Untitled (Breakdown E.P) (Pro-One Records
10) (X) Foul Play - Survival (Oblivion Records)
11) (X) Jungle House Crew - Darksides (DJ SS Remix) (Formation)
12) (X) Oaysis - Jungle Mash Up (Remix) (Formation)
