Local haunts that I'd visit weekly were:

Atmospheric/Destiny (Bournemouth)
Stand Out (Bournemouth)
Spira (Poole)
Carnival (Poole)

Destiny, Stand Out and Spira were good for upfront hardcore/D&B, Destiny was where I'd call "home" as I used to go to and later play at their events at The Manor. Carnival was a real gold mine for old skool before everyone went crazy over it, picked up quite a few unplayed rarities from there in 96/97 such as Rumblism, Clarkee EP and Cuckoo in the Jungle.

Slightly further away that I'd go to maybe once a month:

Adrenalin/Movement (Southampton)
M2 (Southampton)

Stu J (of Gadjet EP fame) owned movement who I knew from Madisons and his Adrenalin events, and Hixxy used to work there. M2 was owned by the guy that promoted Paradox in Southampton (I think his name was Ammy?)

And once or twice due to the distance:
Slammin Vinyl (Kingston)
MVE (London)
Wax City (Croydon)

When I started releasing records in 2001 I would drive all over London and the South coast dropping off boxes so got to know the owners of most record shops that were still going then. It's amazing to think that as little as 10 years ago individual shops could shift boxes of one release. Now we struggle to sell 100 copies in total!

Slammin Vinyl - I went to school in Kingston so nice and handy! I did visit a couple of times when the shop was Troublesome Records. But I was pretty young then, so never really had the purchasing power to be a serious punter. I actually used to buy a lot of stuff from the £1 bins, as didn't have much money in those days.

I got on the Internet pretty early (1996/1997) and pretty quickly switched to some of the online stores and mailing lists as it was around this time I lost interest with Happy Hardcore and Jungle and wanted to start collecting older records.

Some footage of Remix Records at 21m 50 seconds in this video I came across. You can spot Luna-C, Jimmy J, Ola from Stage One (JAL and associated labels) and is that Red Alert and Mike Slammer in the bomber jackets?

Deceptive Records - Guildford
Slammin Vinyl - Kingston
Tower Records - Kingston (again they stocked hardcore so would always have a look)
Basement Records - Reading
Quaff/Unity Records - London
Blackmarket Records - London
Trax - London

I'm missing a few off the list but my brain isn't working too well today!

Mainly 'Our Price' in Braintree - decent hardcore selection back in 1992. Mostly the bigger labels, but i didn't know much better when i was 15 anyway...
I wonder how the buying was handled in national chains like this BITD - i can't imagine a central buyer deciding to load a smallish shop in a small town in north Essex with a lot of non-mainstream vinyl???

Atleast once a week

Bang in tunes Coventry
Spinadisc Coventry
Hmv/Virgin etc Coventry
Fibre Optic Leamington spa
Sound house Leamington

Couple of times a month

Don Christies Brum
Summit brum
Tempest Brum
Reddingtons Brum
5HQ Leicester
HTFR/DMF etc later
Chalkies Banbury
Was all the mainstream lot also, always worth a dig especially for anything remotely commercial as they were £1.99 a pop. I bet some of the underground shops were even buying stock at that price.

To be fair there were endless amount of shops, you could just walk up the backstreets and find shops all over the place. Used to love finding used shops that just put the dance out for in boxes and cheap, just dig and pay a couple of quid each.

Occasional trips to London, Oxford, Northampton and even more occasional trips to Liverpool and Manchester. Not sure if anyone knows it but I went in a shop in Exeter in about 95. Spent all my holiday money on tunes :)

Didn't XL Recordings have a shop in Bristol in '91?

Pretty sure I remember that right from my brief spell @ college there?!

Various shops around Soho - Blackmarket, Unity, Reckless.....and others that i can't remember the name of. Also used to go the big HMV on Oxford Street - found some crackers in there over the years. Shame that it shut down not too long ago.

Also Music Power in Ilford, Boogie Times in Romford & one that opened up on Gants Hill Roundabout around 95ish who's name also escapes me

in Edinburgh, had 23rd Precinct above a clothes shop on Princess street.
Then drastik plastik (Dj KMC) record shop, top of Leith walk. I bought loadsa Gabba from him/there.
Then he moved the shop to the side of the Royal Mile, then he sold it to Bass Generator Records.

Furthest went was to Glasgow and also Amsterdam, but by then ('95), the Gabba was sh!te.

Armourgeddon Records - Benfleet
SoundZone - Basildon
Basement Records and Vinyl Rhythm - both in Southend.

Hours spent in these places, would give anything to go back and spend Saturday mornings in the shops listening to tunes.
