The first 'rave' record you bought?

Post by dj jedi » Thu Nov 22, 2012 11:52 am

If you can remember, what was the first hardcore/jungle record you bought when you first started DJing? Mine was this:

I really can't stand it now, it's so bad there doesn't even appear to be a video of it on Youtube  I think I must have succumbed to pushy record shop pressure at the ripe old age of 15. Luckily my next purcahse made up for it, which was Valley of the Shadows 96 :)

bought from HMV in 1997, i would have been 13 or 14. i bought records for years before i had decks, i had an old turntable with an 8 track my parents had owned. i don't still have that actual record, i wrecked most of my early tunes trying to scratch on an ancient turntable with no slipmat  But i do still have a copy of that tune, and i do still like both sides! (i suspect i'm alone on that, on here at least :D)

Hi,

Hard to think back so far, but one of the first twelve inch 'rave' singles I got was, "It Takes Two", but Rob Base & E Z Rock.

You should see my copy of Valley of the Shadows, it looks like it was found in a war zone  I must have played it thousands of times over the years. I bought another copy recently so that I have a nice one, but I'd never get rid of my original :)

These two bad boys..

http://www.discogs.com/Remodon-Wonderfu ... se/1080891

An excellent choice even if I do say so myself!

Theyre both long gone, although I have since found replacements. I decided to try and make my Lemon D sound like a dub plate by butchering the run in with a pin, needless to say I failed miserably and wrecked it! I wonder what poor sucker has it now. I think I coloured the label on Remodon in with a stabilo boss pen too. Both heinous, criminal acts of which I am truly sorry! You live and learn.

Mine (93 version) is exactly the same! Had it since new, the label has worn to a light grey and it is by far the most battered in my collection.

Like you, I could never replace it. I am very sentimental about my early records!

It still sounds fantastic, it's a tough old boot!

Actually I say by far - my copy of D Force Original Bad Boy / Ruff would give it a run for its money! It's worn right through the label in places.

Im so obsessive about condition when I buy second hand but I love my battered old 12s, they have history!

hmm... hard to remember, i started buying tunes in 1990 like KLF etc., then in 91 would start buying things like Soundclash - Kicksquad, Tigers In Space - Untitled Revolution, MNO - God of Abraham, DJ Space - The Visitor. First "white labels" I bought were Chemical Company - Tronic Equator, DJ Phantasy - The Jungle EP (was actually a black label as they couldn't be arsed to stick a white on it!) and something called Groovoid - Dance Until Your Drop, but can't see that on discogs.

Great times :)

Here you go, I'm sure there are more battered records out there but this wear is from pure use, not mis-treatment. I like the way the black label is almost grey, and the blue marker pen has nearly worn off. I wonder what I'd get for it on Discogs :)

It was this:

http://www.discogs.com/Ragga-Twins-The- ... ster/17891

I'm sure that i bought it in late 91, although Discogs says that it was released in 1992.
I only bought it because i think i'd heard 'Juggling' on Richie Rich's Radio 1 rap show.....
This tune, and the first rave that I accidentally went to in late 1991 started it all i suppose.
