I was just wondering if anyone here has considered selling up? Ive come to the realisation that although I still buy tunes its more out of habit! I tend to play them through and then throw them on the shelf these days. Im tempted to sell but im so so worried that ill look back and regret it. Has anyone had similar thoughts? Did you do it and regret it? Or maybe you kept them and are now thankful you did!!

All advice welcome!!!! haha

People on this site have done it and regretted it, then in some cases spent loads buying them again. I couldn't do it myself.

thats my big worry! I got through phases of playing them. I just know in the summer ill go to fantazia and get back into it, and then a month after that ill be thinking the same thing! Also theres the danger of selling 50-60 of the big ones and being stuck with all the 50p discogs jobs.

I hardly play mine thesedays but they're a part of my past and when I do play them I get a buzz just from flicking through and realising how many great tunes I've got.

see thats exactly how i am. All those years rummaging around dusty shops wasted if i sell! Im torn between the fact that i dont use them and the dread of experiencing the 'oh my god why the f*ck did i do that' feeling.

I had those same thoughts about 6 years ago, shall I sell or not. I decided to sell my equipment nad keep my records. They then sat in my loft for the last 6 years moving from house to house. Then, last month I decide to by some decks again an it dawned on me what a massive mistake it could have been to sell the records. If I had got rid of them aswell it would have cost untold amounts to re-buy all my tunes. In a nutshell....dont do it! \:D/

simple - sell your records sell your soul - you'll regret it no doubt

i sell the odd tune but buy something to replace it - i could never sell my collection

If i could be bothered i'd just rip them all and then sell them - but that's very unlikely to happen. But then again selling them would be a pain too. LAZY!
Except for a batch that i bought in 92 i'm not that concerned about actually physically owning the vinyl TBH......

God i REALLY dont know what to do now haha! Maybe i keep them for a bit. Im not that bothered about making profit on them i never really saw it as an investment. Plus i dont have as many as some. 2000 is still a lot to be sat around though...

Firstly, as you'll have no doubt seen the majority of vinyl has plummeted in price over the last 10 years. There are still plenty of big money tunes, but gone are the days of every vaguely old skool record being worth £10. And unless your prices are the cheapest on Discogs, they will not sell. So figure out if it's worth it based on which ones you'd be willing to let go, and how much they'd generate. It my not be worth it.

Secondly, how many do you have? You could always keep 100 or 200 of your favourites and sell the rest. If I ever sell up that's probably whay I'll do.

Finally, selling individual records is a big pain in the ass and often fruitless (see first comment.) So you need to decide whether you're willing to sell individually, or want rid of all of them in one go. You will obviously make about 10 times money doing the former.

I would say don't sell, hours and hours of searching shops and internet sells resulting in a pulp record collection! All that time and money, staying on at work for overtime to fund more records(old skool) I couldn't do it....

Thanks mate i think that about solves it for me. Defo keeping them. The worry was always being left with the unshiftable tunes and its that core 100-200 that would make the money anyway. As you say the ones you would want to keep!

Hi,

I'm selling up!

I've decided to fill a record box (approx 50-70) for each genre I will still play in future, plus I've made boxes to cover eras.

It means I've got a few doubles and even triples, but it does mean if I do a 1991 oldskool set I simply grab the relevant box and go...

I am also keeping an empty box to which I can add 'new' vinyl, if it is unreleased tracks etc.

boxes:

1990 rave
1991 rave
1992 rave (box 1)
1992 rave (box 2)
1993 rave (box 1)
1993 rave (box 2)
1994 rave
1994 jungle
1995 happy hardcore
1995 jungle
1996 happy hardcore
1996 jungle
1997 happy hardcore
1997 jungle
spares (extra copies of rare stuff incase of scratches etc)

I've obviously got other boxes for different genres, but these above are my whole collection for 'rave' music.

Currently my 'new' collection is contained in just 15 metal boxes! (it totals approx 900 vinyls)

I hope to merge the 2 boxes of 1992 and 1993 into single boxes at some point, but it is so difficuly to choose...
