Fantazia EP #5 possibilities

Post by dj jedi » Fri Sep 23, 2011 10:10 am

Now that EP 4 has landed, I may be persuaded to do one final EP. There's not many tracks left now that I consider worth or am allowed to put out, so would like to hear your suggestions and thoughts. Here's what I suggest the options are:

PSI - Forever
PSI - Inner Understanding
PSI - Fantazia (original mix)
PSI - Fantazia (alternate edit)
PSI - No Way
Ellis Dee, Krome + Time - Free The Feeling*
DJ Slam - Looking Into The Light*
Orca - Sonar**
Orca - Aquabatics**

* I MAY be able to seek permission for these if the demand is there, but not 100% possible
** On EP #2 but that's hard to get hold of now, and wasn't mastered that well

As you can see, it's looking pretty PSI heavy  So it could be a PSI EP. But I am aware that their tracks aren't that popular with a lot of people because they're quite housey. Personally I would love to do a 4 track PSI EP with:

PSI - Forever
PSI - Inner Understanding
PSI - Fantazia (alternate edit)
PSI - No Way

As the other tracks I mention aren't THAT rare. But unfortunately EP 3 proved that having a popular anthem on there does make it sell much better, despite most people claiming they hate anthems and prefer unreleased stuff

So over to you guys. If I get some decent interest I'll look into doing any combination of the above tracks. It will go to pre-order again.

Ellis Dee, Krome + Time - Free The Feeling*
DJ Slam - Looking Into The Light*
PSI - Fantazia (original mix or alternate edit...depending on what it sounds like!)
PSI - Forever

Just saw on discogs PSI - Burning Up which was only acetate. Don't suppose that's about? Curious as to what it sounds like.

Sorry guys but that's not going to happen. I've only been given permission to do these EPs because they are getting UNRELEASED tracks out on vinyl. Putting one or two rare but released tracks on each EP I can just about get away with (if I can get permission from the artisits.) But the above track listing would require licensing tracks from 4 different sources and I'd have to charge £25 a copy

So if you're willing to compromise and have 2 unreleased tracks, and 2 of the above (which I assume 90% of you will already have anyway so I'm surprised you'd all rather have these anthems over unreleased stuff!?) Then I'll see what I can do. If there's genuinely no interest in the unreleased tracks, I'll call it a day.

Cheers Silky. Nice tune that.

Bottom line for me, Jedi, is if it's got DJ Slam on it I'll be buying a copy.

Don't bunter or slipmatt own the rights to that one, if so I can't see that being cheap to licence
Yep exactly, and as said it's already been repressed so isn't super rare. I only really put 'You Got Me' on EP 3 because it's the first vinyl I've released for 4 years so I wanted to be pretty sure it would sell well. But as I (and most people here) already have the tunes that have been previously released, I'd much rather have an EP of unreleased tracks personally. But if there's no market for it there's no point.

Hi,

I can't believe all the replies are simply asking for an EP of 'Anthems'!

I agree, the 5th EP defo needs 1 anthem to make it sell, but putting out 4 tracks already available is crazy...

IMO it reads as though ppl just want to get anthem tracks on the cheap, whilst missing out on vinyl pressings of unreleased tracks... Come on guys, this is B2VOS, not ANTHEM_BASH...

DJ Slam - "Looking Into The Light" will obviously sell this EP the most, although I never found it that hard to track down, plus it was re-pressed TWICE in the last few years.

Licencing "LITL" will easily bump the price of an EP up to £15 as Fantazia don't own the rights (Declan & Matt do...)

I really can't see the point of putting "Free The Feeling" on the EP, as it is so readily available on vinyl anyway.

If a track is alreay on vinyl cut very well at 45rpm with a whole side to it self, pointless remastering at 33rpm with only half a side...

I have to agree with Edd, a PSI 4 tracker would be amazing, as none of the tracks are on vinyl, but how would it sell at £10 a pop - badly for sure :-(

If you have to have 1 'big' track to sell it, I suggest 1 of the Orca tracks, as they seem to have a huge following. Still a bit pointless as both were on EP2.

This is gonna be a difficult EP to sort out... It seems everyone would want it if it had the 4 non-PSI tracks, but it simply wouldn't sell as I doubt very much it could be produced for under £20 a pop.

Option 1: PSI 4 tracker that few ppl will buy

Option 2: non PSI EP that few ppl will buy due to it costing the earth

Edd, make a poll and see what happens...

My EP of choice...

PSI - Forever
PSI - Inner Understanding
PSI - Fantazia (alternate edit)
PSI - No Way

Why not find out the exact costs before making assumptions with regard to the cost of producing the ep -> if most people are requesting the 'anthems', then surely that indicates a certain level of demand?!

:D

I personally do not rate any of those PSI tunes and struggle to see how that would sell.

But - tbh - i only really liked the 2 tunes i listed -> DJ Slam and the Orca tune (Aquabatics).

Maybe a poll of the tunes (as suggested by Gyr8) is the best bet going forward?! Good luck with this one Edd ;)

I agree with both of you, that's why unfortunately it might be best not to bother and call it a day. I was just testing the water really. Releasing a vinyl with tracks by more than one artisit/label just isn't financially viable unless you're doing a run of 1000+, which I don't have the means to sell/distribute.
