Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

I think there's 2 answers to that (for the big hooks)... A lot of the time in the early days myself and pretty much everyone else would sample a single stab (note or chord), tune it and play new riffs with it. Later (93 onwards) I spend 1000s of hours programming my own sounds across the entire kit,...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

@dial1 Yeh, love ambient music, not released much but have plenty in my music library projects. I don't know any of the artists you mention, I haven't heard any new electronic music for years (probably a decade) Drum and bass has become too narrow a genre, it all sounds the same to me, that's why it...

Re: Jack Smooth interview

That's a lot of stuff to answer in one hit, why not ask 1 or 2 at a time on the (seems to have become my) main questions thread. http://www.backtotheoldskool.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=116226&start=630 Hello. Don't really post on forums but I thought I'd ask a few because I've always been more...

Re: Jack Smooth interview

Morning chaps, All I have done is answer some questions honestly and accurately (I didn't seek the publicity, it came asking). I was truthful but I was actually quite reserved given the detail I could have gone into, which would have been considerably more unpleasant for the people in question and s...

Larry Heard is a house legend, simple as that. I salute him.

Re: Photek/Truper Box Set from Basement

£10k won't cover the legal fees, nowhere near. That's how and why 'small time hustlers' exist.

There is a 2nd triple-album, so I wonder if that is still coming out?

Re: Photek/Truper Box Set from Basement

Seen lots of comments about this over the last few days on Facebook/Discogs etc implying that Photek indeed isn't getting a cut of this. I must admit although I'm happy to own it, I feel a little dirty having paid £60 for it and 0% going to the artist. I assumed that the high price was due to the l...

Re: Photek/Truper Box Set from Basement

The main problem I have is that I would need to 're-make' any chosen tracks with meticulous quality. I'm unable to offer fast, cheap fodder to people who frankly deserve a whole lot better.

Unfortunately quality requires both time and will power, which are both rare commodities.

Re: Photek/Truper Box Set from Basement

As with my IP being used without permission on his last release(s) - which I'm still waiting to be notified how and when I will be paid - I have little confidence of this being handled professionally... not being able to use the name says a lot. I know you fellas like to collect this stuff, but I wo...

Hmmm... it doesn't sound like it was done at Sound Entity.

I would say most likely not. I did quite a few with them but that one doesn't ring a bell.

Re: currency exchange affecting sales

Honestly I really hate the pound sterling- us dollar exchange rate. It's not as bad as it used to be but combine it with the exorbitant Royal Postage rates (not the sellers fault really) Wouldn't it be nice to have a proper trade deal between UK and USA so we can easily buy and sell to each other w...

Re: Discogs preventing the sale of certain tunes...

That's a very good point as technically the fraud squad, FBI, etc. could already seize the lot and destroy it. It wouldn't surprise me if it ended up that way (banned from Discogs) TBH, it'll just take a few influential social justice warriors to kick off. Will it end where all music that feature un...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

I'm sure he's still dining out on it.... Doubt it, one of payments for music used in adverts plus it was Arthur Baker (Its his mix used in the old advert) twisted his arm for it to be used. But it is safe to assume he made a few squid. I also know that Levis rejected the "Flat Eric" adverts 1st tim...
