American breakbeat hardcore/jungle
Another thread got me thinking, were there any significant hardcore labels in the US back in the day?
On a slightly different note, were there many in the north of the UK besides Juice Box in Manchester and that white label from Bolton? (I remember another from Bradford, but forgotten the name right now and I don't think it lasted long)

Not sure about the states, but L Doubles label Flex was Huddersfield based, I think!

Re: American breakbeat hardcore/jungle
the one American act i know of (from Blog to the oldskool) is these guys:
only had a couple of EPs though. (and that tune is on an LP of US re-edits of big UK tunes. but it is rather good i think!)

Re: American breakbeat hardcore/jungle
This is going to bug me, because there was an American label which had about 3 or 4 releases and they are all pretty sought after. It was a few years ago I saw it on Discogs, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called. I seem to remember the label name having "2X" in it, but that's all...
Re: American breakbeat hardcore/jungle
Yeah Marcus Intalex is from Manchester, he released loads of jungle tracks on various labels including Flex (and still does.)
There was this release from America, not sure if it was official or not:

And of course I think smile was American (Moving shadow etc.)

Re: American breakbeat hardcore/jungle
OK, well the "american" part is a question I can answer at least....
The label Paul is talking about is:
http://www.discogs.com/label/35212-Livin-Large-Records
A lot of the early ones were hiphop singles but with heavy breakbeats /rave samples, not sure where the line is between that and full on breakbeat hardcore but I think this EP counts:
http://www.discogs.com/2wice-As-Hard-Gi ... ase/386972
They're also mostly pretty rare/expensive, I only have a few of em.
Assorted other us stuff:
http://www.discogs.com/Unknown-Artist-T ... ase/533173
http://www.discogs.com/DJ-Tone-Insanity/release/38100
http://www.discogs.com/label/91545-Sound-Mob-Recordings (think I posted "dance the night away" on the blog)
http://www.discogs.com/Paperboy-2000-Fi ... ase/602782
http://www.discogs.com/Various-Untitled/release/1250815
http://www.discogs.com/Xpando-Swarm/release/952391 (prince on this is a joke, it's not THAT good haha)
and I'm sure everyone knows this one:
http://www.discogs.com/World-Dominance- ... ase/135374 (there's a few other tracks that might qualify as hardcore/jungle on the label)
Probably one of my favorite things I've found is this originals(?) mix/live PA? by 1.9.7. aka Jordana from 1993. Not sure but I think it's mostly original stuff, feel free to tell me otherwise and ID any tracks though :)
https://soundcloud.com/mrandersonjr-1/1 ... ous-1-1993
There's loads more, I've got a list I'm working on for an eventual mix because so many of the tunes are totally weird / off production / almost "outsider hardcore" style, they're well suited to my taste in obscure anorak tracks. I think I'm up to 100 releases but that's including 95 stuff now and some early house/breakbeat singles that got played on 45 in the UK. In the meantime I've posted a number of things here under the "us" tag:

Then of course you got the more hardcore Kevin Saunderson stuff although maybe it goes more in the "ravey techno with breakbeats" category

http://www.discogs.com/Jomanda-Got-A-Lo ... ase/259930 -Limelight Mix is a banger!

Ohh yeah, Soul is a dope track but the technical production is ass.Thumpson wrote:http://www.discogs.com/Various-Psychoac ... ase/134368 ("Soul")
This is the weirdest record in my collection. I picked it up at Planet X Records in New Brunswick in 1994:
http://www.discogs.com/Kroy-Wen-Untitled/release/539933
I'm one of only 5 people who owns it so I feel somewhat lucky. These tunes are really weird! The only real jungletekno track is "Living in the Jungle" and maybe "Let's Go". "Shuttle" is a bit interesting too. The other tunes are very experimental and not very dancey. I think it might be Carlos Soul Slinger behind this as it kind of sounds like him.
You can hear "Living in the Jungle" in this set here: http://www.house-mixes.com/profile/1992 ... t4-320kbps
