Promoting tips?

Just need a bit of help on this one...

Thinking of giving the promoting a go again, but i was doing gigs around 6 years ago odd before the Facebook/twitter era was around and flyers were still the main way of getting your party heard about.

So obviously things have changed since 2006 (closure of record shops, most things gone digital etc) so i needed a few tips for making a party successful in this day and age.

Any tips from some modern day promoters?

Have brand name that ppl already know, otherwise give up before you start unless you want to lose lots of time & money

Good question, Facebook certainly appears to have taken over but I wouldn't use that solely. I agree flyers are more or less a waste of time these days. The key thing is to let people who actively go out about it, so that means having a good mailing list.

Don't rely on Facebook or twitter. Do get flyers done up and get them distribute them do attend other events and get out there and talk to people face to face about your events.
