Troubles finding strings and atmospheres for DNB

Post by DIEMOS » Mon Aug 17, 2009 6:36 pm

Are there any good sample packs that have good strings/atmospheres? Iv tried loopmasters but their stuff kinda stinks in this department.

What do the pros use? Iv been listening to a lot of metalheadz lately and love the moody strings they use.

What about VSTS??? which ones?

Thanks :D

I mainly use the Korg Wavestation for strings, and Massive is excellent for atmospheres. As is Predator and Albino.

for atmospheres you can timestretch stuff really far so it ends up being an ambient moving layer basically. Try anything breaks, drum hits, stabs, pads, vocals whatever and stretch it ridiculously.

Best thing for strings is garritan or east and west ;)

beat me to it hahah

I do this all the time, best thing ive found is a hi hat sample coz its pitched high to start with, then stretch it by resampling, you want the pitch to drop as its getting longer.

So you get it lasting 4 or 8 bars then find an interesting part to use, I like because as you play your melody the sound changes as you go up and down the keys.

Ableton is great for this

failing that get a few string samples and layer then applying different fx to each one the sample the whole lot, dont forget reverb and stereo delay, you can get mad fx if you over-compress it :)

have a listen to this lots of stretchy goodness going on
