Acid Jungle?

Post by mrbinge » Fri Apr 27, 2007 8:14 pm

Ok, bear with me............

I had a dream last night where I was at a party and I was trying to describe the type of jungle that I really like. The best way I could really describe it is hard amen style breakbeats, with a droning, acid type bassline underneath. Something between breakbeat hardcore and, say congo natty style ragga jungle. I found that acid jungle was the best way to describe it!

Now, the question is; was this an epiphany? Have I finally worked out how to describe the wicked style of jungle / hardcore that I love and rarely hear? Or is this a complete bunch of bollocks?

So does anyone recognise this as a accurate description of some tunes? If so can you point me in the right direction?

If not, then please ignore me; I am slightly worried that I'm having dreams about jungle, but its all good!

Cool. So I'm not going crazy. Although I don't know if 'acid' is the right way to describe the bassline (of the imaginary jungle in my dream!). Its just the kind of warm, droning bass I associate with really great acid techno!

Add some kickdrums and you have breakcore.

don't know if we're on the same wavelength or merely using the same terms but i've got a folder entitled acid jungle in which i've been collecting tracks over the past year to make a mix out of...here's one from there:

maybe not jungle strictly speaking but it's worth checking out some of Martin Damm's tunes (Biochip C, Headware, Search & Destroy) - some of them are breakbeat, and jungle tempo, and use acid. "Iron Man" being the first one that springs to mind - a proper tune.

there was also a track someone put up here by a producer called Octodred that was acid and pretty jungly, and really cool. Called "jungle hooliganism", on Acid Fever recs...also on a Dutch label called TDk. I think his other tunes might be hardtek type tunes though. (Not that that's bad of course ;))

Anything like my live remix of Stakker - Humanoid? That has amen in it.

If you haven't already listened, it's track 5 on my latest mix:

True! Dragonfly's "Smoke It" is just excellent acid-jungle-tune! 8)
