Just registered to post this.

This tune is much treasured and features as part of a rather long post , but here goes

I had only just started getting into the scene and buying records in the summer of ’92, and first this heard this on Pete Tong in about Sep 92 , when he played these 3 in a row, ‘Omer & crooks – Let there be love’, ‘Nino – Future of Latin’ and ‘Shades of Rhythm – Happy Feelings’ - what a trio of belters eh! They went straight on the hitlist

Jeez – 1992 was a high point in so many ways. I was a student up in Dundee at the time, which was pretty well supported with specialist dance shops Equinox and 23rd Precinct opening in late summer/early Autumn of that year, in addition to good selection at HMV, a great all round independent ‘Chalmers and Joy’ and Groucho’s which was a general 2nd hand music shop, but got in some amazing ‘rave’ tunes at great prices.

I picked up Nino 12” in Groucho’s in about Oct/Nov for the chocolate princely sum of £1.50, so that was 1 in the bag, 2 to go.

I ordered ‘Shades of Rhythm‘ with ‘Chalmers and Joy’ after we found it on a release list. So every week for a few weeks thereafter I popped in to pick up, but it never arrived. At the time we did not know that it had been pulled due to the sample clearance issues.

I think I eventually found this out from Mixmag or Echoes, and was talking about it a few months later with the guy in 23rd precinct who said he remembered having the promo in and pointed to the area on the rack behind where it had been – Hmmm great.

Getting back to Omer and Crooks I didn’t have much of a sniff on this one either.

Except there was a release by Laura Allen ( Featuring Omer & Crooks ) on Profile records later that Autumn. My initial excitement was squashed on playing, it was slowed down with a rather drawn out chorus vocal – it just was not the same.

So my quest continued for a couple of years with very little luck…...

Until in 1994 I was down in Edinburgh and visited Global records ( Great shop ) for about the 3rd time, and DJ Dell ( Top bloke ) was having a clear out. The more expensive records were behind the counter with a list available for review, with the less desirables out in a rack the main shop.
Browsing through those out in the shop what should jump out of me more or less straight away. Wow, what’s that - a piano cover – Omer and Crooks – Grand Piano ep _ Let there be love - OMG this was it ! I hadn’t even known what the cover looked like and there it was now in my hands - What a rush!! And a modest £2 – I would have given a kidney for it! I was on a high, and carried on browsing , and picked out a few more interesting looking titles including Logo – 1 for the drummer, Lemon D – DJ Wax, Bonehead, DJ Royal T Fantasy in Motion @ £2 each. I had no idea about these beforehand but I listened to a few and liked the sound of them. From the ‘expensive’list I bought Energizer 3 for £10, which took me up to 1,3 and 4. (I remember Dell remarking how good Energizer 2 was). I also remember the limited edition blame green/red double pack was on there but that had been sold @£25 – I think. ( Unusually, more than it is worth now ! )

Well to complete the story in 1995, Breeks of Grouchos invited me to look at a selection of new tunes in , and there in all it’s green covered glory was the SOR Happy Feelings doublepack. Get in - the mini quest was complete!.

I had an ill judged clear out in around 1999, where sadly a good chunk of my collection went for very little, but such is the circle of life. Sadly Bonehead, Lemon D and DJ Royal T Fantasy were in this purge and as yet have not been replaced, but these 3 gems, and Logo - 1 for the drummer still remain :-)

I enjoy reading this forum, so may post a few more ramblings from time to time. Cheers, Paul.

Hypersleep, loved reading that mate. Didn't realise Pete Tong had played Let there be Love.

Bonehead EP was made in Scotland wasn't it, bit of a personal fave of mine that is. Long live the record shops and the stories and dreams that they have encapsulated!!
