Network my hardcore tunes....

Alright people.

OK - cheating a bit with the title as this is just a general NAS-based query for ALL my music.

I want to have some kind of network storage set up to play (mainly) music & also work as a repository for films / pictures to view. What would you recommend?

In fact, what would people recommend as an entire setup -> NAS / amp / speakers?

I already have some nice speakers (Q Acoustic Concept 20's) but with our baby charging about the place I have sadly had to store them & any new speakers will be bookshelf - probably on bracket mounts too I have a couple of different NAD amps already but realise I might require something else (Wifi'd) to talk to the NAS system.

Any tips music lovers?

Hmm that adds a different dimension to things!

I am not sure if I would need the availability anywhere as such - though I hadn't really considered it tbh - it was more an in-house solution I was pondering.

Now I am thinking why limit yourself though if you can stream to say a smart phone...

I use a Now TV Box and Plex. You can buy the box for £15 here:

Plex is free. Install it on both the Now TV box and your computer (which can be anywhere in the house on the same network) and you can then stream films, music, photos and even IPTV streams (eg dodgy football links) to it. Amazing piece of kit for £15. I decided against a NAS device as firstly it would take an eternity to copy everything on to it as it has to be done wirelessly (none of the ones I found had a USB port!) and secondly I like all my files on my main laptop for when I'm travelling.
