The so-called landlord stab sound is the real sound of that era for me, I nearly love every track wwith that sound.eazyflow wrote:Here's one of my lesser known favourites:

I think that this belgian sound was a bit more professional, the perfect combination is a set where you alternate things like this with UK 91-92 Hardcore. Fortunately these tunes were pressed in large quantities so it's very unlikely they become as expensive as the 93 dark jungle records.

Big shout to DJ Strongforce for introducing me to this belgian banger!:

Re: Favourite Belgian Tech tunes are?
Absolutely love a bit of early 90s euro techno. Particularly like the more rave/hardcore oriented tracks that dominated 1991. For some reason belgium and holland just ruled that year.
Seems that holland gets a bit of a raw deal out of this. A lot of great music came out of belgium but the dutch also contributed a load to early 90s hardcore techno. A lot of the tunes already mentioned in this thread were by dutch artists. Hithouse Records, Lower Eastside Records, ESP Records, Mid Town Records and Go Bang! Records were all dutch labels and played a pretty big role in what we called belgian techno. Arguably the most well known 'belgian techno' track in the early 90s was Human Resources's Dominator - and it's actually by a dutch group. I think that the belgian label R&S is so iconic and symbolised this sound so much that in the UK we called it belgian techno partly because that's where R&S was based. Perhaps we should have called it Benelux techno?

totally. also, Freaky Records (X-Es, Psychic Flush) and Stealth Records (Space Trax, Techno Grooves). i think there's quite a few big tunes that people know as Belgian that are Dutch. some mentioned in this thread already!retrospect wrote: Seems that holland gets a bit of a raw deal out of this. i suspect that's partly from Belgian new beat that the sound is associated so much with Belgium. and that Holland is more associated with gabber, which grew out of that sound in 92.

Re: Favourite Belgian Tech tunes are?
Yeah, 80's new beat is something i think of as particularly belgian. Also worth a shout is "Reactivate Volume One: The Belgian Techno Anthems" which was a huge hit in terms of sales. I'm sure that had an effect on people associating this style of music with belgium. Four out of the ten tracks on that LP were by dutch producers.Traffic Cone wrote: totally. also, Freaky Records (X-Es, Psychic Flush) and Stealth Records (Space Trax, Techno Grooves). i think there's quite a few big tunes that people know as Belgian that are Dutch. some mentioned in this thread already!

Excellent track that, the intro sets the theme of darkness and the rest of the track is storming too.eazyflow wrote: Biggups for reminding me about this one:

Another seriously dark record, and probably just about my fave of all the belgian / euro techno tunes, is this:
(and it's another dutch track)
