Incredibly Disgusting Individual
Would it not be funny if he was caught selling a vinyl rip someone else uploaded to the internet..
I'm sure that will be the case in the not so long future, and will end his site in a moment just like he has done to so many others...

Re: Yikes...
I'm not buying a file from that site, no matter how rare that special unreleased dubplate might be, it's about principles now.
I've never quit the old habit of buying vinyl or cd's and I got all my music ripped at the moment. I also share and download stuff but I'm not paying for that, I think I already spend money enough on this scene supporting old and new artists but I'm not funding that w..ker and I do hope no one here spends a single penny/cent on this site.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm not even reading the interviews he may publish there.

Re: Yikes...
We're basically back to the good old MP3 debate again, and as a few others have said although the way this has been approached is destructive and amateur, ultimately the fact is nobody apart from the copyright owner has the right to distribute MP3s, no matter how much effort they've put in to doing so.
I liked and used IAAO, but its days were always numbered if we're honest. That's why B2VOS has never fallen in to the same trap. Regardless of dressing it up as community spirit blah blah blah, MP3 sharing is illegal. If you want to own this music legally, either buy vinyl or pay for MP3s.
Saying that, is this moron going to make any money from all this? no chance

Re: Yikes...
My 2 penneth.
Everybody wants the artist to get paid, any filesharing site in such a small scene as ours is always going to get some trouble somewhere down the line with this. My personal policy on filesharing is this:
If the tune is available to buy legally, buy it and don't fileshare it.
If the tune is not available anywhere to buy legally and it's over 10 years old, fileshare it until the time comes when it IS legally available to buy.
Vapour was a member of IAAO and fileshared. Those tunes are now legally available to buy and it would have been better if he'd had a word with IAAO and asked them to take down any links to rips, but if the artist wants them taken down then they are well within their rights. It's almost like a modern equivalent of bootlegging a 12 inch.
Viewing a low quality YT rip is fine, DLing high quality, legally available music of any genre is not. If you like the tune, pay for it.
Policing all this is another matter :) Vapour and any artist is never going to stop filesharing, but they will go after the easier targets.
BTW Vapour is still a dick.

Re: Yikes...
By the way, Coldplay has just released their new digital single and it's also available on its full length version on youtube because their own company thinks that's the best way to attract new potential buyers.
I think this explains it all. There were other ways to do all this, much clever options than upsetting all your, by now, ex-customers.

Actually less surprised/upset by this than by the whole Youtube debacle, recon they actually had more of a justification here, since sharing high quality rips is straight up bootlegging but damn, what a dumbass way to go about it. The guy obviously hasn't got a clue about what's left of the scene. Incidentally, a mate of mine was saying that pretty much everything on the site (HJ) is a badly mastered vinyl rip and definitely not worth buying anyway. Think the skeleton recordings stuff is all dat but most everything (including the dj crystl stuff isn't) Wouldn't know myself as haven't listened but does shine another light on his taking down other youtube videos... He doesn't want anyone comparing his products with the audio on youtube and finding out they sound identically bad.

But there's a disclaimer on HJ that says that some of the tunes are ripped from vinyl/compilation CDs..so you can't really touch him on that.
Re: Yikes...
Personally I think any track this isn't DAT sourced should be marked as such. A bit like tapes used to have 'DAT Recorded' on them :)ian saunders wrote:But there's a disclaimer on HJ that says that some of the tunes are ripped from vinyl/compilation CDs..so you can't really touch him on that.

Re: Yikes...
Problem is, it seems to have got to a point now where people are moaning about IAAO being taken down because they won't be able to fileshare on there any more.
Taking down YT channels is indefensible, taking down filesharing sites is not. Sites like IAAO were always going to be at risk of this sort of shit, it's a ticking timebomb, especially as there are plenty of other places you could fileshare stuff.

You're never going to stop filesharing, so don't worry about it. IAAO were shitting in their own backyard doing it, when they could have pointed people in the direction of it in Russia.
A lot of it now seems to have descended into how great filesharing is, how amazing it'll be when the internet gets faster, how powerful it is, how good the quality is.
All true, but it's going to win you no arguments with producers, labels or rights owners who want to get paid for their work.
