DJ Gyr8 - mythbusters....

Post by pineappletribe » Tue Feb 11, 2014 9:44 am

Has anyone ever bought a record from him on here?
Has anyone ever seen his record collection?
Has anyone ever heard/seen him DJ?

Just a little fed up reading constant bullshit seemingly on every thread telling tales of how he had 10 copies of such&such obscurity and it is utter sh!te & sold it for 5p in a job lot... blah blah fvcking blah.

What a tw@t.

No offence :D

I have heard that he has leather bound flyers and his vinyl warehouse smells like rich mahogany

The jury is still out. In his defence:

1) He clearly knows his stuff - great knowledge on tunes/the scene
2) He's been on the forums for years
3) He knows a lot of the same south coast people I do (allegedly) which you would only know from being around then
4) I've sold loads of records to him over the years and he's always been good to deal with (one of the best in fact)

However he doesn't do himself any favours because:

1) Those that have been around for years remember his more humble days when he didn't have every record ever made (google his old wants lists)
2) He never answers anything personal and goes to great lengths to hide his identity (even though lots of us know exactly who he is ;) )
3) He got busted posting a photo of 'his' record collection he found on Google about 10 years ago
4) He claims to have DJ'd at all kinds of events we all know but refuses to disclose his DJ name - why?

I seem to be having a non-bullshit day and felt obliged to post this as really cannot be arsed with all the tripe

Seems a good way of finding out what is really what ;)

Presumably his warehouse is under water currently?

Hi,

Weirdly, this water has been a major concern... Thankfully I've only had a minor amount of water ingress since they sorted the drains.

I know his personal details because I've sold records to him, but he doesn't want those details to be public knowledge so it wouldn't be cool for me to go blabbing it.

As to who he claims he was back in the day - no idea! I don't know why he refuses to disclose it, there were dozens of local/B-list DJs back then so there's no shame in not being an A-lister. And he's certainly not any of the A-listers I've met over the years.

I've no issue with gyr8 whatsoever. He definitely knows his stuff and readily offers up any information he has.
Fair play to you gyr8

What Ric says.

Like a bunch of old women  gossiping in the hairdressers about Doris.

there is a bit of the "boy who cried dubplate" in effect though :D in that whilst i don't doubt a lot of his knowledge, or that he has an extensive collection - but his many more fanciful tales of having every dubplate mentioned on here, playing gigs in most dance genres at various points in the past, connections with bands etc, do make it hard to take him as a definitive authority ;)

whether he's doing this because he really wants to convince anyone or through mischievous trolling, i don't know. either way, he's fairly committed. and it can be pretty funny :D
