Cheesy Rave tunes you secretly liked

Post by jonny » Thu Aug 30, 2012 9:54 pm

But wouldn't admit to :-p  in order to keep my credibility as an underground raver in 1993 and slagging off 2 Unlimited and the likes but i admit i really did like this tune, i think i first heard it on BPM or somewhere on TV and thought that's a good tune, next minute it's in the charts and people were saying it's cheesy

come on then lets have your secret tune you liked that you wouldn't admit to

I really like that Cappella track. I have a secret love for cheesy eurodance anyway, I think it's a release from all the serious techno, electro and DnB I normally listen to. Can't take everything too seriously :D Although digging a bit deeper into that scene I have discovered some truly horrendous music

Tbh there's plenty of charty rave / dance from the early 90s that I like so nothing in particular I could pick. Given that it regularly gets people foaming at the mouth on here, I'll say Gypsy Woman!

I own a few 'classics' which would be classed as stilton, but I still love. I know 'Sweet Harmony' is one of those that are classed as either a classic or overplayed garbage track, but it's one I still love immensely today. Though I know it's not specifically classed as being 'cheesy' in itself, just through being an obvious choice of a tune.

However I do still like http://www.discogs.com/Shaft-Roobarb-Cu ... ase/145465 . I reckon the 'Dr. Trip & Bob Bolts Mix' is a decent piano driven track, even though it was one of those tunes responsible for the Toytown rave explosion.
Couldn't believe that Mark Pritchard of Jedi Knights, Chameleon, Chaos & Julia Set and Global Communication started off in Shaft!!!

To be honest, except for bilge like Dr Alban, i don't mind most commercial dance music from the early 90's these days. Even though i used to detest it all!
I'm turning into my old man - except 1972 is now 1992!

who me? never! actually, i can't think of any cheese i secretly like, i'm happy to admit i love loads of cheese that most right thinking people would find horrific :D

agreed about 90s commercial stuff - i find that i like even the poppy chart dance that i first got into as a kid a lot more than it's modern equivalent, i guess cos it had a lot of the same influences as the 90s stuff i really love, just more watered down...

Got to be Charly. Say what you like about the samples but it's a fucking tune and a half!

I agree with the vote on Horsepower - Bolt too, tune.

Veering off topic but did you know this took it's main riff idea from this oldie? Don't know if it was a plain rip off or what the story is...

They, and probably the Living Acid guys, took it from this:

I think this is the best tune that uses the riff. Listening to it again it might even be this one that Cappella took the riff from as the sound is pretty similar:
