Gary Numan samples

Post by mrschop » Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:53 pm

Other than the songs listed here http://www.whosampled.com/sampled/Gary%20Numan/ were any samples of Gary Numan ever used in any oldskool tracks?

Thanks

I'm surprised to say that I can't think of any oldskool track which samples Gary Numan. Considering his heavy use of synths and his futuristic music approach, you'd think that someone will have used his sounds.

Going to a completely different era, I always thought that the Reece sound on Ed Rush's 'Killamanjaro' once the tune drops sounds exactly like the synth sound in 'Are Friends Electric'. But I reckon that's just coincidence. :D

I am a huuuuge Numan fan and can't think of a single oldskool tune that sampled his work (either as 'Tubeway Army' or under his own name)

The classic 1979 Numan synth sound (Are friends electric etc..) was created using a standard preset setting called 'Vox Humana' on the Moog Polymoog keyboard - if you check youtube loads of people are trying to recreate the sound on modern equipment

.. oh and the best Numan song ever (in my opinion) is 'Down in the Park' on the 1979 album 'Replicas' .. so ahead of it's time (still sounds fresh 33 years later!)

I always love this track!

And the B side sounds well Old Skool too!
