Outdoor raves

Post by ian saunders » Fri Jan 07, 2011 11:03 pm

Everyone knows about the big outdoor raves (Vision, Dreamscape, Fantazia Perception etc), and there's loads of footage etc on YT.

What were the other outdoor raves like? Peacefest? (can't think of any others off hand)

Universe was just the best, blew Fantazia, Vision and Perception (well the ones I went to) out of the water!

Pleasure Planet, Mind Body and Soul, Tribal Gathering, Time Machine and Big Love were all tops.

Were any of them poorly attended though? Every photo i've seen of outdoor/big raves from the early 90s and they always looked rammed.

Gotta say any outdoor raves I went to were always rammed. The only exeptions would be small illegal ones.

all the Pandemonium's were indoors.

'Here Comes The Sun' would have been semi-outdoors in a Big Top or Tented, but it was cancelled.
i remember driving up there with my mum on the evening it was supposed to be happening to have a look at it & it looked like it would have been wicked party.

but alas the council threw their toys out their pram & put the kai-bosch on it because the fencing wasn't high enough

somebody told me later that there had been a low key mini-party held there on the site that night...
but i took that rumour with a pinch of salt because the lad who told me that was usually full of shit.

yeah, I always preferred indoor raves but Tribal Gathering was amazing.

outdoor was always great for that sunrise moment...and gotta agree that weekend world in 91 was spot on.

big love i thought was terrible though, purely due to the awful sound...my last "proper" rave that was.

free parties were always great when outside and i have lots of happy memories of ooops, spiral, bedlam and sputnik sound parties.

in fact i'm playing at an outdoor event at the end of may, just outside Reading - Ooops! Soundsystem reunion bash...all the original crew dropping hardcore, reggae, techno and jungle from midday till 6am..and fully legal too.

Does anyone remember a spiral tribe one ( i think it was them) in 91 somewhere in oxford. My memory of that night is hazy to say the least.
no money to get in just had to throw some money in the bucket to keep the petrol for the generators going.

that'd be the forest hill party i think...i've got an easygroove set from that night.

a proper fun event that one...though i had far too much acid for reliable memories of it!
