Why can't they stop using the work Hardcore full stop.

Cheesecore I think is far more apt.

raverbaby isn't 98 though I'm afraid, its the last 4 or 5 years mainly.

Its all hardcore though, hence why its in the same section. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it isn't hardcore.

Some of us are still going to the raves and spinning it you know..... maybe you should come out to a hardcore party sometime, you never know you might just have a good time ;-)

its definatly not hardcore imo and i can remember walking out of arenas in 1995/1996 when a happy hardcore dj came on so doubt i will like it now but credit to ya for still going out to raves - i suppose i shouldnt be rude about it just does my head in when its called hardcore

Hardcore has meant 175 bpm stompy stuff a lot longer than it has meant anything else. The old skool breakbeat lasted perhaps five years at a push and the stompy, "happy" stuff has been around for maybe 13. I don't think anyone has even really called it "happy" hardcore since about 2000. I think you're just going to have to accept that's what most people think of as hardcore.

it doesn't sound hardcore.. although it evolves from it

.. imo.

here's my understanding of happy hardcore:
happy hardcore started as breakbeat dance music with >160 BPM and very cheesy high pitched vocals and pianos. Many used acapellas from pop songs. That was around 1994 at the same time UK hardcore got killed by jungle.
Later on happy hardcore started using more and more 4/4 beats, meanwhile hardcore/gabber disappeared from major raves around 1996 and started to get faster, harder and darker.
