Worst Remixes?

Post by oldskooladdict » Fri Aug 01, 2008 6:47 am

OK so it's a bit too early in the morning for me to think about this... however, what do you think are the worst remixes of decent tunes? - try to keep it roughly oldskool and not new dnb remixes of stuff etc.

Not strictly a remix I suppose but the first thing that comes to mind is the DJ Pooch remix of 31 seconds!

So, what remixes just ruin the tune, kill the original vibe of it and just turn it in to a 50p bargain bin lump of crap?!

I can't think of a Naughty Naughty tune that I really enjoy, they're quite well put together but there's nothing inventive or different about them in the slightest. A good comparison would be the DJ's Unknown stuff on Homegrown (as well as other stuff Unknown did on the label) which use well known riffs or samples but do so with new sounds, putting into different parts of the track etc.

'Hi Tec Muuusic' is one of my favourite tunes from 91 - but the remix, in comparison, is lightweight and dull.

Which one - Anasthasia stab or Mentasm version?

Each to their own, the second version is the one that do it for me. Sample works great, hard as hell breakbeats and wicked use of the mentasm sound.. proper 91 rawness IMO

other vesrion is ok to my ears, still think there are better tunes

this one is great:

this is wack:

the one with the hoovers is the other track on the b-side of the original.

Easy, EVERYTHING 'oldskool' on Clubland CDs :gay:

even Basshunter, that new tune, he stole that from DaddyDJ in 2000

I see, .. haven't heard that one. Original Hi Tec Music is a top tune

This is similar - bland remixes of another original-sounding tune -

sonar system - http://www.discogs.com/release/42670

and the remixes - http://www.discogs.com/release/31837

Also : Armand Van Helden remixes of Narra Mine

.. contrary to G Double E's mix which is a top tune.

i always thought that was far superior to the original. takes the one interesting bit from the rather dull original, adds some extra stabs and a really good piano...hell, even the beats in the Pooch version are more interesting, which is something considering it's a happy hardcore tune!

can't think of many myself oldskool wise. although i really don't rate the Brisk remix of VIbena - Postive Energy. Takes the energy and the madness out of the original...eg the really happy melody that runs alongside the piano is the bassline in the remix. It just makes it sound like any old 95 tune, whereas the original is the best happy hardcore track of all time, and stands out. Then again that's exactly why the remix was the more popular track!

BITD when they came out i was highly disappointed with them & i still am
don't get me wrong they are playerable in a set, but the original out shines it by miles by its sheer brilliance
if i was playing out i'd play the original & unforgettable feeling over those remixes
I'm with you on this one - seems that the remix is much more popular on here but for me the original is one of the best tunes of its era. I don't think I've played the remix since I got it, whereas the original always gets cained.

i agree about the Mickey Finn remix, always found that very overrated.

but, the Nookie remix on the other side is a great remix - same vibe as the original, but with a nice piano complementing the main theme. I really love it, i remember hearing it for the first time on an Ebay auction and listening to the clip again and again...no idea why it is the least popular mix of it!

Speaking about the Pennywise remixes, the Micky Finn/Baby B Kane mix as a remix isn't the greatest, but as a tune in it's own right, I think it's a big tune. I did think the Nookie remixes were more faithful to the original vibe, but for me the original will always be the one.

I thought the remix of Let Me Be Your Fantasy (the ruffer remix?) wasn't that great, the Acen one was much better, even if the vocal is kinda out of tune :)
