Unknown Dream 001

Post by aize » Mon Jan 14, 2008 9:59 pm

Don't know if anyone else on here has this cos only one person on discogs seems to http://www.discogs.com/release/973654 but i just found it at the back of my collection and its a bit good. If anyone else has it is the soundquality on your copy crap too? (Particularly side B) Also, how the fuck are you sposed to mix it? It droppes beats left and right, jumps by at least 6+ BPM randomly and doesn't appear to have any rules to it. (once again side b, although the jumping bpm was the first track on side a) will try and sort a couple of small clips as i don't think this record would be breaking any rules/likely to piss off any artist/promoter as its a complete unknown. Incidentally i vaguely remember the guy who sold it to me telling me it was something to do with dream fm. Don't know if anyone can confirm that?

That's where i picked it up as well. Got my copy from Dance Traders on trafalga st (the road coming down from the station) about 2 or 3 years ago.

as aize1 says the tunes on the EP are pretty good, its just the production & mastering that lets it down #-o
Ahhh ;)
Bit like this one :

http://www.discogs.com/release/314179

3 really decent tracks on this ep, but sound quality is dire.

That's weird that a Simon Harris EP would have shitty production, wasn't he an engineer/producer for hiphop stuff? I thought he engineered that MC Duke "I'm Riffin" break used in countless oldschool tracks.... unless it's a different Simon Harris and the discogs link is wrong.

Might be a different one - not sure.

Couple of clips I found on google :

http://shop.happyhardcore.com/mp3/16421-1.mp3
http://shop.happyhardcore.com/mp3/16421-1-b.mp3

Now they are of low quality, but will say the vinyl isn't too far off soundwise to be honest.

Ok, i know we're not supposed to post full mp3s but i don't think this will piss anyone off. Sorry if it does. Was gonna chop the rips up into smaller clips but my computer's doing weird shit so here's the full ones.

This Simon Harris is not the same one - but actually someone off this very forum and the hyperreal OS list back in the day.

You can read more about the track here:
http://www.renoise.com/board/index.php? ... entry84782
I am from the old skool of Amiga users, first thing I ever used was Noisetracker.

My biggest claim to fame was being chosen out of over 2000 entries into Amiga Format magazine for my old skool tunes to be released by a record company.

The tracks to be released were some of the first tunes I ever made, I was so inexperienced that I used to get samples from anywhere including cassette tapes!

The record got released on Beehive Records under my real name of Simon Harris (anyone got a more breakbeat name than that????) so as to pick up sales from people who buy the real Simon Harris' stuff.

Heard it out at a rave once which was totally mind blowing.

You can still pick up a copy on ebay sometimes.

His username on here is 'harrrrrrry'

He used to come out raving with us in the late 90s. Here's a picture of him on this very site:

Don't know him - found him in the members list, but only had 7 posts (which are now long gone).
Be great if he still had the tracker files - might be able to clean up the tracks :)

Last saw him at my night a year ago or so. Try contacting him on the Renoise forum post that I quoted above :)

So no opinions on this bit of vinyl at all then? Bah, last time i bother ripping anything ;) Personally i think side b is a killer tune, in fact they're all good, just heavilly let down by the production and sound quality as Elusive said.
