Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

Juno 106 is a great synth even though it's very basic - it's easy to get results from. The problem with analogue synths of that era is they're pretty costly to maintain as the components are often starting to fail. With the Juno 106, apparently the voice chips are prone to failure. They're easy eno...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

Lol, you brought back memories of sitting in front of OctaMED doing that exact thing! It was a quick way to lay a beat down every 8-16 lines, all my patterns were 64-128 lines long, but the thing about OctaMED that killed me was that putting all those patterns into an actual track was just so count...

Re: Technical tune description thread

Fantastic thread and great to read the differing points of view! Yeah ill second that Rage, Don't really feel articulate enough to comment further on said subject, but on a personal level I'd like to think that my love of different styles of the music spectrum will hold me in good stead with my own...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

Thanks for the reply, would love that step write feature to help me out, I get so static with my melodies it's frustrating, but actually getting good sounds out of the 01RW now, have found that the Virus B has an Arp send feature so now my 01RW & JV 2080 can use the same Arp Patterns as my virus wit...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

As always it's really interesting getting an insight to your studio time. Ron, did much of your early work consist of using arpeggios? You always managed to produce really good bass grooves. And how did you go about writing melodies? Was it done in parts or pretty much in real time? Also what were y...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

That's totally understandable given your nature, and apologies if I crossed the line. My nature is also similar, but it still doesn't excuse the obvious talent in the music industry as after all it is about the MUSIC! I've never ranted online before. Haha, always a first for everything. LOL...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

it was very short lived and disappointing to say the least as you didn't get the credit you totally deserved, (yet again Uncle Dugs had to say you were the unsung hero in basement, which is a totally unfair reflection of the label). I didn't exactly help myself at the time, I've always been a bit u...

Re: Origins of the Rave Stabs

Ron just on a side note about the 01. Did you used to layer/stack individual sound/parts after you waveshaped them in audio? I noticed you can't access waveshaping on Combi mode. Or is the idea to Waveshape individual sounds in Prog mode then save them and layer them up in Combi mode? Did you also ...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

So you're not getting paid for your tunes being on this release? That's pretty shitty. Kind words don't pay the mortgage. I don't want any money, or anything at all to do with it, this has been done without my blessing. The money will no doubt not be worth collecting after costs. Thank you guys for...

Re: Origins of the Rave Stabs

Sorry, couldn't resist... but it's a unique bit of kit than can make iconic stabs, albeit with plenty of programming using waveshaping. As I am finding out to great effect. :D I hope to really get on it (programming wise) when I am back from my holiday which incidentally is back to the UK. Been ove...

Hey Ron. Not sure if this will interest you or not. As you are aware Basement Phil is very active with the Basement label at the moment. Uncle Dugs has done a podcast in relation to the history of Basement Records. If you would like to listen it's here http://rinse.fm/artists/uncledugs/ Friday 1st M...

I have some of these. Good mid range speakers. Will upgrade one day but these are really nice.
