Re: Fusion This Saturday

that's exactly the sort of thing i'd like to hear from Easygroove - decent 93 hardcore and techno.

i am not complaining about it being happy hardcore heavy though. And if the Druid & Sharkey set is like a mid 90s Druid set...I couldn't wish for anything more.

Re: Fusion This Saturday

what sort of stuff is in the third room? not heard of any of those people so i'm intrigued. also i like the fact that there's a Rushgroove on the same lineup as Easygroove and Vinylgroover. Shame they couldn't have booked Loftgroover and Topgroove as well for the full set!

Re: Fusion This Saturday

I am! Hoping for plenty of happy hardcore, which seems to be on the cards. And Easygroove to play at least a couple of harder/weirder tunes.

I've just noticed Mark EG is on there too. If that means some oldskool hard trance...I will be very happy.

Re: Best & Worst you've DJ'ed at?

best: a night my mate put on called Earblender, b2b with another mate. smallish night of various styles of obnoxious rave music - great fun though, plenty of mates and pretty much the only chance to hear the sort of stupid hardcore i love at a rave in the UK. worst: a small night a mate put on abov...

Re: techno and dance music revisionism

are you really just annoyed that techno isn't seen as cool? anyway, techno isn't really part of that "hardcore continuum", so it's not rave in that sense. techno's a totally different branch on that timeline. as in music that would be played at a rave? yeah, sure. i would say much more so in c...

Re: do you agree with Cox here?

Bit late for that now. I remember a DJ called "Fracus" who was making waves around 2005... Back room/warm up job until he blew up a few years ago. Jungle was just as bad for an age, too. But Dj's like Finn, Kenny Ken, Jack Frost etc got replaced by the Frictions, Andy C's as the headliners. That st...

Re: do you agree with Cox here?

What is the Hardcore scene like right now? The last boom, IMO, was in 2005 (amazing times), but then it fizzled out. Is it still healthy but underground? Or is it completely done? from what i've heard, based on people on my Facebook who are still into it, it seems to have dropped down a bit in size...

Re: do you agree with Cox here?

it is funny that there's basically a small group of people: Bradley Carter, Trixxy, Fade, DNA, Jon Doe, Devastate, Austin Reynolds, Mickey Skeedale, Al Storm, Scott Brown, Sunset Regime, UFO, Luna C, Ham - who between them made a significant majority of all (UK) 90s happy hardcore  i'm curi...

Re: do you agree with Cox here?

Fair point. Wasn't JAL the label who tried to still push a happy jungle/breakbeat sound into 96/97? And, if memory serves, it was the only HHC label to have a black person involved in running it. Well first of all, Inferno Records in Holland (and it's sublabel Chronic) was run by Bass D who is a bl...

Re: do you agree with Cox here?

i think you do see the same thing with all styles of music. even just from reading forums i can see that for pretty much every year there are both people who think it was when d&b was at it's best, and when it died for them. and i think there are also plenty of people for whom dance music is just on...

Re: Irish rave scene/old skool?

NI or Republic? there's lots of tapes of the popular Northern Irish DJs on YouTube - the standard is generally pretty high so i do like em. mostly happy hardcore/bouncy techno: Tizer, Paddy Frazer, Binman, Fergie (who obviously went onto be pretty big!) but also hard trance: Sci, X-Ray. was a scene ...

Re: do you agree with Cox here?

Surely it makes sense to speak of collective E-experiences? So why not collective comedowns? i think the point you are missing there is: the reason that there was a collective shift to the darkside in rave, was that it was the early days, so most people had (broadly speaking) started together. wher...
