Re: Sample help, doing my head in!

Thanks! Knew it was connected to Rebel MC, but couldn't remember exactly what.

Re: Which DJ's just fell off the map completely?

I think the point that TC is trying to make is that whilst One Nation under Turbo put on some decent parties BITD, there's no guarantee that in today's climate he'd be putting on parties that would be comparable. You may have all the experience, source venues etc etc, but if the crowd aren't there, ...

Re: Anyone got this?

It might well be, the flyer was from mid-92, so it might well have been a delayed release.

Is it any good? I doubt it.

Anyone got this?

http://phatmedia.co.uk/flyers/event/wax ... disc-flyer

A record was given out with this flyer. The track is Lowrise (an alias of Leeroy Thornhill of The Prodigy) and is called "Trouble At Sandy Heath"?

Anyone got it? Heard it?

Re: Which DJ's just fell off the map completely?

"So Vinylgroover, why did you release so much dross in your final year in hardcore?" did you ever read Wax magazine? he had a reviews column in there, and would review all his own releases pretending he'd no idea who was behind them (obviously they were all under random aliases!) and someone wrote ...

Re: Which DJ's just fell off the map completely?

True, but if the name has a national profile, sells out every time and is one of THE top 2/3 brands in the scene, surely that's a license to print money providing that the scene is healthy? It should be, i suppose it depends on how motivated the seller is. Dreamscape was a hige brand and that chang...

Re: FACT Mag Top 20 Happy Hardcore Records, err....

I enjoyed that Makina article, even if I'm not entirely sure exactly what Makina is. There was a good documentary a few years back about an independent record shop in Stockton-On-Tees ("Sound It Out" a great watch) and the customers who keep the shop open and alive. 2 of the customers they followed...

Restless wrote:Re: Selling brands... How much would a brand like 'Uproar' go for? It was a massive name in the scene, events were always packed out (so you'll never not make money) and they had a good rep.

How much would a brand that big get sold for?
Dunno. You're only really buying a name and the goodwill.

Re: FACT Mag Top 20 Happy Hardcore Records, err....

Aside from the all the errors, it's just horribly written! This is actually T-Power, who went onto work with Shy FX and stuff. Nice sentence m8! There must be swathes of people out there willing to write a more comprehensive and correct run-down with actual interesting things to say about the recor...

Re: Which DJ's just fell off the map completely?

wasn't there also an album in Japan which Seduction pocketed loads of royalties for, including those belonging to others? which is why Brisk wouldn't play at Uproar? i think Vinylgroover might have "left the scene" acrimoniously as well. when it all fell apart at the end of the 90s VG was one of th...

Re: Which DJ's just fell off the map completely?

Any chance of that interview floating about on the net? I love interviews with DJ's from that era. Didn't Seduction sell his 'Uproar' brand to HTID a few years ago too? Yeah he, to me, always comes back (or did). I do think that if I was a big name like he was in the Oldskool scene and then went on...

Re: FACT Mag Top 20 Happy Hardcore Records, err....

haha i liked seeing Torchman and "Finest Illusion" in there, just knowing how hardcore heads would love seeing them described as "happy hardcore" aside from the factual errors (the fact he manages to misspell Kniteforce in two different ways is quite impressive) what i find strangest about this is ...

Re: Which DJ's just fell off the map completely?

Some DJs (Bassline Smith) managed to return. Seduction quit in about 1999-00 (Making an ill-judged attempt to become a house DJ under the name John Seduction. Played one badly-mixed set at the Opera House in Bournemouth then quit. I remember reading an interview with him in To The Core in about 96 w...

Just had another look and my comment with corrections appears to have been deleted. Oh well.

Added another comment in response to one guy asking why there were no Reinforced or Moving Shadow tunes on the list. FFS :D
