Re: 4 beat / HHC remixes of classic old skool...

I think that 4 Mega remix is by DJ Bookings (great name) which i think is Jon Doe. Pointless and maybe not all that interesting fact - I remember a thread on USH a few years back where he said he couldn't work out how they'd created one of the sounds in the original, although I can't remember which...

That's a good shout actually. Meditation in particular, when you think of what was coming out just a year before in 1992, it's world away from that sound.

Re: Game Changers: Goldie 'Terminator'

The problem with that record is that it took so long to come out that by the time it finally did, happy hardcore's popularity had taken a nosedive. There was so much hype around it and if it had been released in early-mid 97 it probably would have charted. I would think F&S were keen to get it out t...

Re: Game Changers: Goldie 'Terminator'

Dr Alban - 'Its My Life' Lol I did actually put Mel & Kim for quite sensible reasons. About 6 months ago on FB thgere was a big discussion about what the first bonafide UK house tune was, I.E. one that had all the sounds, right BPM etc etc. People like Terry Farley, Noel Watson, Trevor Fung, Jon Da...

Re: Game Changers: Goldie 'Terminator'

Yeah, agreed. The above example of Toytown, terrible as it is, is a great example of a game changer. Something that caused a whole scene to shift its sound (for the worse, sadly). Anasthasia also. That's the archetypal 'rave' tune IMO. Must have been mindblowing hearing that for the first time. What...

Re: Blackmarket Soho Closed

Thing is, there was no need for those shops to treat you like shit in the first place. I always made a point of going back to the shops that made an effort to make you feel welcome - Elite in Victoria was a stand out for that, and Kinetec/Banging Tunes was practically like going round a mate's house...

Re: The Fading Ruins Of Rave (album)

Just re-reading my post and it kind of suggests the rest of his stuff is like this - it isn't, this is the only "ravey" release he's done. But his techno is excellent - very moody, not particularly hard but still quite driving. Lots of sinister atmospherics. He's one of my favourite producers.

The Fading Ruins Of Rave (album)

This won't be to everyone's taste, but I stumbled across this today and thought some of you might be interested. http://subsist.bandcamp.com/album/the-fading-ruins-of-rave-sub-d31 It's by a guy called Voidloss, who's been releasing dark and moody techno for the last 10-15 years. Most of the tracks h...

Re: Sedders out of retirement

I must admit that if I had any plans on going to this night, I'd be much more excited at the prospect of Seduction playing a proper old skool set than Carl Cox. It's been said above but Seduction's sets up until 95 were superb. I caned his Mind Body Soul and Fantazia Big Bang sets to death.

Re: Carl Cox Old Skool set - May 2015

I love that Tank Source record there - one of DJ Freak's best - but it was certainly harder than most of what Carl played. I don't think I've heard him play it in a set. Made with Mike Humphries by the looks of it. Which might mean nothing to you, but I had plenty of techno records by him. Actually...
