Re: Reinforced box Set

I commend them for doing the set; clearly lot of effort has gone into it. But unfortunately, this sort of limited product ultimately becomes a magnet for resellers who want to buy then 'flip it real good' at 2 - 3x the original price paid. Like Jedi says, it's less about the DJs and more about who h...

Re: Reinforced box Set

This looks incredibly gimmicky! Well unless the tunes are amazing of course.

Re: Tracking down tracks for new DJ Sy CD

There are more underground oldskool nights now than ever! Ratpack/Moondance... whatever you may think of them - they simply provide a nice entry point into the scene. I doubt many newbies would fall in love with 1992 era rave after picking up an obscure white label with an 8-bit Mentasm sample on it...

Re: Copyrights on vocals, etc...

In Complete Darkness: Fat controller mentioned on the Billy Bunter radio show that he cleared all the samples and still has the relevant paperwork. The Janet Jackson one didn't need clearing as it was spoken word and relatively short, although he attempted to as part of the process The internet and ...

Re: Naughty Naughty ‎– Volume Nine (sample needed)

Most of them feel quite lazy. Vibes definitely inspired Wishdokta to make better hardcore in his final years with the genre, even if he wasn't pushing the buttons directly. I guess he was shifting gears to house and garage greatness by that stage of his career. I like the Jem 77 and Awesome 3 remixe...

This was posted last year, but a great interview all the same. Sub Base one on the same site is also worth reading.

Homegrown Records: DJs Unknown Vol 1.

And the later remix, DJs Unknown Vol 4 I think it was from memory.

Re: How many records have you got?

I certainly chewed through way more records when I DJed every other week at a small club, party or similar. However, most of the records I played I would spin for a few months and then stick to the back of the shelf. Now that I rarely play out, I'm happy to restrict the collection to a smaller numbe...

Re: How many records have you got?

I think around 1,500 at present. I find it a bit of a millstone around my neck when it gets much larger in terms of storage, ease of access and then needing to move house from time to time and lugging it all about. I've probably had around 5,000 tunes pass through my hands since I started buying vin...

Re: An answer i had from Jack Smooth..

Interesting discussing dubplates. I have distinct memories of heading to record shops with a tape of up to 10 tunes I wanted to buy when I was a youngster. I ended up coming away with NONE of them, as they weren't out yet. Just think of the loss of sales! Often by the time a tune came out, I was sic...

I asked him in to play on our Uni radio station in Brum back in 1999. He was a really nice and friendly guy from memory.

Has anyone tried contacting NJoi about releasing the missing tracks? I mailed them a few years ago to ask if there was a chance of a digital release but no response.

Re: SMD #5 Vinyl!

People often cite SMD 1 as one of the foundations of happy hardcore, but how about Crowd Control by Ramos & Supreme. That was also a big tune at the time and it sounded pretty distinctive compared with a lot of the other tracks being played. Not so sure on SMD 5, maybe I'll regret passing on it but ...

Re: Re: Your music choices after the scene had died..

In terms of what I was buying as new music at the time, rather than after: 1994 - 1999: Drum & Bass 1994 - 1996: Happy Hardcore 1996 - 2000: House & Garage 1998 - 2002: Breaks 1999 - 2000: Hard House 2003 - 2008: Electro / Techno / Acid / House 2008+ Not an awful lot, just a few new records a year n...
