Re: Tune ID - A long shot at best!

Thanks man. that's close too, but not quite it! This might come down to a full on 92 ragga hardcore tune thread in the hope of unearthing it!

Re: Tune ID - A long shot at best!

That's a nice tune Will, cheers, but not the one. It's a bit more up beat, and has the same sort of reggae stabs, but a kind of long trumpety melody for the first two bars, then the stabs roll out in the second two. Then repeat. Damn, I'm going to have to have a stab at recreating the melody as ther...

Re: Tune ID - A long shot at best!

Not quite, but I tell you what, that's not far off!! Similar kind of vibe and tempo. I don't think it had a vocal in though, if that's any help? :-S

Tune ID - A long shot at best!

Ez all, this is a long shot - a f*cking long shot, but worth a try as it's been bugging for more than 20 years now! There was a tune I used to hear in the background of a radio ad, circa 92/93, probs 92, given the style of the tune, but pretty much all I can describe it is as having a kind of upbeat...

Re: Hardware samplers! Who still uses 'em? and why?

@rage The S950, depending on what rates you use for sampling, gets you that 'crunchy' breaks sound that you hear on older records, no doubt about it. Lowers sampling rates were a necessity back then if you didn't have memory extensions, so you could fit more sounds in. Standard memory on a S950 is 7...

Re: Hardware samplers! Who still uses 'em? and why?

Yeah, that is another thing- the individual character of each of these old units could be a real contributing factor to your sound. Whereas I guess a lot of soft-samplers these days are simply playing noises off your drive in very similar ways to each other.

Re: Hardware samplers! Who still uses 'em? and why?

I have to say, I do like to have some limits when producing, for example the 8 monophonic outputs on the Akai really make you think creatively about your arrangements and what you're trying to achieve. I compare that to when I could spend two weeks tweaking a snare drum back in the early 2000's on L...

Re: Hardware samplers! Who still uses 'em? and why?

And the Akaizer - yes thats a great little tool! I used that when the guy first released it and I think any stretches on the breaks first Demonic release would have been done with it too. Its actually really authentic, I have to say!

Re: Hardware samplers! Who still uses 'em? and why?

Cool, I can totally appreciate the time thing.. Throw a few kids into the mix, and getting an hour at a time seems like a luxury! I was fortunate enough to get some time travelling with work a few years back, and wrote a release I did for Kode5 recordings partly at a Singapore airport, partly, at Me...

Re: Hardware samplers! Who still uses 'em? and why?

I think and Amiga calling the shots with an S950 has got to be a lot of fun. Something about the way the edits and midi work on a tracker can make for some magic!

Hardware samplers! Who still uses 'em? and why?

Ez all, I'm an oldskool hardware sampler geek, and always keen to talk bit-rates and replacement drives with anyone that will listen! If you're still button bashing on one of these, what do you like about it, and why? I'll start. I'm on a couple of S950s and an S3000XL. I love the raw 12bit grainine...
