First heard of dance music through Radio 1 of all places, and as a result only heard some of the chart friendly tunes (Prodigy/Bizarre Inc/SL2 etc.) and was only 8 at the time and didn't have enough pocket money to get hold of many of them. Didn't start buying records until 1996, and only got decks in 98, and thought the vibe of oldskool hardcore had gone. Bought Dreamscape's Millennium collection CD pack in 2000, which had a wikid set by Sy, then discovered your site when bored at college one day. Since then I've tried to get any old skool I could lay my hands on (albums, 2nd hand etc.) which was why my set had a few too many anthems (but at least not Edge*1 or Ratpack). Also into drum & bass and have plenty of old and new stuff, some of today's stuff does keep the hardcore vibe alive.

| Tune Selection: 7/10 good all round
Mixing Ability: 7/10 good but nothing trick
Overall Feel: 6/10 good but too anthemish for purists

| Tune Selection: 10/10 The Rob Blake of DJ Compo #2. Where are all the other entries' belgian tunes, hmm hmm? I haven't heard that Armageddon tune since the eclipse. Tango tune is tops. Even the anthemy/charty stuff (RC001/Prodigy/SL2) fits well. Wicked.
Mixing Ability: 6/10 More competent mixing, a couple of dodgier mixes I would have pulled and re-done maybe.
Overall Feel: 10/10 My favourite this time around, this compo's 'burn to cd' set. Total = 26 |

Tune Selection: 7/10 Good to see a set with a lot of pumping 91 tunes in it which is rare these days, although narrowly misses being an anthem bashing set. Also it's quite unique in that it starts off very techno stylee, moves into the typical happy 92 sound, finishing with some dark jungly numbers. Works quite well, without sounding like it's all over the place.
Mixing Ability: 7/10 Not really any mistakes, but the mixing is very fadey, which is ok for the slower tunes but doesn't work well with the 92 stuff if you ask me. Also not very adventurous throughout, which is even more noticeable when you're playing slower tunes. Still by no means bad though.
Overall Feel: 7/10 Quite enjoyable to listen to, but I'd say that's got a lot more to so with the tunes than the mixing, so not a great deal of credit can be given. As I said though the mixing is good enough not to hinder enjoying the tunes which is the main thing, it just doesn't do the mix any favours as it's meant to be a competition.
